Auction terms
Version 1.22.0 · as of 21.09.2026
1. Type of auction
Auctions on dns.legal Domains are online auctions in which the purchase contract is concluded with the highest bidder when the auction ends. The operator provides the technology and settles through escrow.
2. Bids
Every bid is binding and cannot be withdrawn, except for an obvious typing error before another bidder’s next bid. With a maximum bid, the system automatically bids only as much as needed to stay in the lead (proxy bidding). The maximum bid remains hidden from others.
3. Extension
If a bid is received in the last 5 minutes, the auction is extended by 5 minutes.
4. Reserve and buy now
If the seller set a reserve price that is not reached, the seller may accept the highest bid within 3 days; otherwise the auction ends without a contract. A buy-now price applies only until the first bid.
5. Prohibited bids
Bids by the seller or persons close to the seller and collusion between bidders are prohibited and lead to suspension; the operator may cancel affected auctions.
6. Payment and non-payment
The highest bidder pays through escrow within 7 days. If they fail to pay, the seller may offer the domain to the next-highest bidder; the defaulting bidder may be suspended. Further claims are reserved.
